SIL. As printed on the tape by the stock ticker these letters mean silver. On the New York Stock
Exchange silver is bought and sold at so much per ounce and the dealings are in lots of 1,000
ounces of fine (pure) silver. Not the actual silver is dealt in but certificates which represent silver in
storage.
