Long. A speculator who has bought stocks is long—long of stocks; he is a bull. The opposite of
this term is short and a speculator who is short of stocks is a bear.  On the London Stock
Exchange it is the custom to say that a speculator is bull of stocks instead of long of stocks as is
said on the New York Stock Exchange. Likewise, a speculator is said to be bear of stocks instead
of short of stocks as is said on the New York exchange.
