Line. The word line is often used as a synonym for railroad. For instance, the Pennsylvania
Railroad is not infrequently spoken of as the Pennsylvania line.  Also, line is sometimes used to
designate a particular issue of bonds, as main line bonds, meaning bonds issued under a
mortgage on the main line (of a railroad) ; or, branch line bonds, meaning bonds issued under a
mortgage on a branch line of a railroad.
