Consignment. The designation for goods forwarded which are to be sold by the receiver of them
(who is the consignee) for the benefit of the owner (who is the consignor).  Merchants or
manufacturers who wish to introduce goods in a market often send a consignment and the goods
are sold at the best price they will command in order to bring them to the attention of buyers.  The
term also is commonly applied to any shipment of goods.
