Broker. One who executes orders for the purchase or sale of stocks or other property; an agent.
A broker cannot bind his customer without his express agreement by transacting business
committed to him in any other than the ordinary and customary method. On the London Stock
Exchange the broker is merely the middleman between the public and the jobbers. He acts as
agent for the outside public, while a jobber buys and sells from or to the broker and covers himself
by a purchase or sale with another jobber or broker.
