Bituminous coal. Commonly called soft coal; mineral coal, containing 30 to 50 per cent of volatile
matter; designated as coking coal when used for the production of coke, furnace coal when suited
for use in a blast-furnace and cannel coal when rich in gas with low heating power. Bituminous
coal is found in many parts of the United States.
