Advance - A sum paid by a party to a contract on account of and before completion of the same;
money paid before it is legally due, as money paid against a consignment of goods received but
not yet sold.

Advance as used in speculation in stocks, grain, cotton, coffee, etc., means an upward movement
in prices.
